60IN60 Day 6 - Sat Sept 10

It's Day 6 and we're in Luke 6.

Where God Spoke To Me:
- Verse 11 - It's amazing how focused we can become on our theology and miss the obvious move of God that's right in front of our face.

Help:
- Verse 2 - It didn't violate the Mosaic Law; it violated their rules derived from the Mosaic Law.
- Verses 21-22 - I think the point is not that we are to be miserable, but that need to have a hunger and desire for things that are beyond this world.
- Verses 24-26 - We need to make sure we aren't content with the petty things that this world can offer us.

Your Questions:
- "Explain vv. 34-39 of Luke 5." - Verses 34-35 have to do with Jesus being present on the earth.  Jesus is the groom.  Jesus is essentially saying, "Yes, fasting is normally supposed to be a part of your spiritual walk, but while the groom is present it's a time of celebration.  After the groom is gone then things will go back to normal."  That, of course, would be after His ascension.  Verses 36-39 have to do with Jesus starting something new.  He did not come to "tape up" the old sacrificial system.  He came to do something new (offer Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the world) and to inaugurate a new era.  He is saying that a patch job is not what's needed - a whole new approach is necessary.  Sure, some people will long for the old way (v. 39), but the new is needed and better.
