60IN60 Day 57 - Mon Aug 29

It's Day 57 and we're in Psalm 2.

Where God Spoke To Me:
- Verse 12 - We don't like to think of the wrath of God, but the Bible is clear that wrath is part of His justice.

Help:
- Verses 4-6 - The idea of the Lord laughing here has to do with Him laughing at how they think they can overcome Him.
- Verse 9 - The idea here is that Jesus will someday rule over those who oppose Him and in that moment He will shatter their resistance and judge them.
- Verse 12 - The evil of sin demands that God be wrathful.  What kind of God would He be if He looked at the evil in the world and was not bothered by it?

- "The heading of this section is titled "The Return of Christ", so these verses are obviously talking about things that will take place in the last days.  But some of the words in these verses spoke to me a little differently:

worries of life (vs. 34) - who doesn't have worries in life ?

it will come upon all those who live on the face of the earth (vs. 35) - no one is exempt, not even the most faithful Christian, the greatest pastor, the innocent child; worries come upon us all

stay alert at all times (vs. 36) - people are warned to be careful, and be aware of their surroundings; we should be more aware of what is surrounding us, and the road we are traveling down; we might be able to avoid a dangerous situation, spiritually speaking

be on your guard . . . that this day will not come on you suddenly, like a trap (vs. 34) - what a difference a day can make, even an hour or a minute - that cancer diagnosis, a spouse leaving, a child dying, bad news of any kind - and it comes so suddenly. This verse says that the only way to not feel 'trapped' is to be on our guard.

so that your hearts will not be weighed down (vs. 34) - so many people have heavy hearts from the things of life; pray for that person who appears that everything is 'fine'

praying that you will have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place (vs. 36) - again, I think we read these verses as events that will take place in the future - the rapture, the tribulation, the second coming - but things are going to happen in our lives now, or tomorrow, or next week. We are instructed to pray that we will have strength to escape when these things happen. Not necessarily to pray after the fact and expect God to take it away (although that sometimes is the answer). But to pray in advance that we will be able to escape (be freed from) the situation."
