- Verse 5 - Jacob "adopts" Joseph's son for the purpose of being able to give them a blessing like his own sons.
- Verse 19 - Some things are just destined to be.

- Genesis 47 - "I study history. The 1929 depression is a parallel. Those without debt thrived and those with debt sold everything to survive. We became a desperate struggling nation; a nation of “slaves” to the government for survival. Can it happen again, and maybe sooner than later? And is the root a nation ungrateful for our blessings? The possible parallels are ominous."
