60IN60 Day 36 - Mon Oct 9

It's Day 36 and we're in 2 Kings 21.

These chapters tell of one of the good kings. There is a lot of Old Testament that tells of the bad kings because there were so many. Here is the story of Josiah, one of the good ones, but today's reading sets up the story by talking about some bad kings.

Where God Spoke To Me:
- Nothing jumped out to me today. There will be days like that.

Help:
- Verses 1-9 - It's not just that they weren't serving the Lord - it's that they were actively pursuing evil.

Your Questions and Comments:
“'Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him."' Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26‬:‭48‬-‭49‬ ‭NIV‬‬. If Jesus had been causing an uproar, been around town teaching, and such why did they need a signal to show who he was?" - Good question. The fact that Jesus had achieved some notoriety and had crowds following Him didn't mean that everyone had gotten to see Him. Especially for Roman soliders, there were undoubtedly a lot of people who had heard of Him but not seen Him in person. It's also worth remembering that this was an era before TV or pictures, so if you hadn't seen Him teaching, you wouldn't know what He looked like. Finally, the raid was happening at night, which increased the difficulty of making sure you got the right person. With Judas' ability to get close to Christ, it was a good plan to let him come up to Jesus and give Him a kiss on the cheek to identify Him.
