60IN60 Day 17 - Wed Nov 20

It's Day 17 and we're in Esther 5.

If you struggle with the feeling that you need to hurry through the reading, it can be helpful to lay aside a certain length of time for the reading. "I'm going to spend the next ten minutes reading the Bible. If I get done early, I'll go back and re-read it. If I don't get it done, that's fine. Now I can relax and not try to hurry through so I can get on with the other things I need to get done today. I'm going to be here for ten minutes."

Where God Spoke To Me:
- Verse 11 - Such pride.  It's so disgusting to see in other's, yet we're tempted to do the same thing.

Help:
- Verses 6-8 - Why the delay?  Why not bring up the issue right then?  The Bible doesn't tell us if this was all part of her grand plan or if she just lost her nerve in that moment.  I tend to think the latter.

If you want to read the chapter online, here's a link.

Your Questions:
- "v. 15 of ch.3- was there such a large segment of Susa's population Jews, did they have such influence in the city for the whole city to be bewildered. Weren't all used to the callousness with which human life was dealt with? There they are fasting again in 4:16." - The Bible doesn't specifically tell us why the city was bewildered in 3:15.  Susa was the city where the king's throne was (Esther 1:2).  My presumption is that perhaps the bewilderment was something along the lines of "Where did this come from?  Why are we suddenly exterminating all the Jews?  Was there a crime they did?  What's behind this?"  It's obvious from the later chapters that there was some anti-Semitism in the kingdom, but I think most people didn't expect the king to order a genocide.  I think it was mostly people wondering what the root cause of this unexpected proclamation was.
