Where God Spoke To Me:
- Nothing jumped out to me today. That's ok. There are times like that.
Help:
- Verses 1-2 - Many believe that there is a time gap between verse 1 and verse 2. That is, way back in the beginning God created everything. Then, as we pick up the story of the creation of humanity, the earth was formless and void (verse 2). That would allow for things like the dinosaurs.

- Philippians 2:
What verse/words jump out to me?
Verses 1-4
“fellowship”
“be likeminded”
“having the same love”
“being of one accord”
“of one mind”
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory”
“let each esteem other better than themselves”
“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others”
Paul was promoting Christ like harmony to the church at Philippi. Paul knew this was key.
Verses 5-11
Paul went on to instruct the Philippians to be a servant like Christ was.
For the rest of the chapter the thing that spoke to me was concerning Paul’s own situation. He was writing this letter from prison, unsure of his future. He had his own feelings about his future and what God might do, but he simply does not know for sure. The key is that he is content with whatever his future holds.

What verse/words jump out to me?
Verse 2 “Beware of dogs”
This obviously jumps out at me in reference to the popular warning signs we see today. Paul was placing a strong label on false teachers. He was providing a parallel between the physical danger and damage a dog could cause and the spiritual damage a false teacher could cause to a Christian and the early church.
Verses 3-11
Paul of all people could have toted his Jewish lineage and entitlement around but he did not. He drew a distinction between having faith in works in the flesh and keeping the “law” and having faith in Christ’s finished work. He had left more behind than anyone else in this endeavor.
Verses 12-16
I think these verses could be used as a pep talk for a sports team whose coaches goal is to get the team to strive for perfection.
12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
Vince Lombardi said “Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.”
